What is your favorite quote or mantra?
Practice the discipline of thanksgiving and take nothing for granted. There’s something transformational about unwavering gratitude.

What are some must-read books that have inspired/changed you? Why?
Americanah - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
This was challenging because too many books came to mind but I chose Americanah because it resonated with me intimately. When you leave your home country to live in a foreign place, there's so much to reconcile. This novel reassured me that my experiences were not uncommon and helped me to find balance between two worlds. It gives great insight into the challenges one faces when encountering the unfamiliar and how to overcome unforeseen adversity. It’s definitely a must-read.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Stephen Covey
Ever wonder how to be better at your life? This book has all the answers. It has helped me formulate an actionable strategy for achieving any goal and has taught me how to be a better person.
Who/what inspires you? Why?
My mother. In her own life she takes so many risks and she encourages me to do the same. I often over-think situations or talk myself out of doing things “I’d love to do” but she’s the voice in my head reminding me not to underestimate myself. She doesn’t know this but I like to call her my cure to imposter syndrome. As for what inspires me – the good. Goodness, charity and humanity inspires me. The work we do at The Humane League reconnects people to their humanity and when some one realizes the suffering caused by their actions and make changes to prevent those outcomes, that’s inspiring.
What are some of your advice/tips for being a Compassionate Citizen?

In all that you do, do it with the least intentional harm. And practice the golden rule - make sure that whatever you wish for another, you would in turn wish for yourself.

What are you currently working on?
The Humane League Dallas Gala! On April 28 we’ll celebrate the tenth anniversary of The Humane League. That’s ten years of reducing animal suffering! We are so excited to commemorate this milestone and to bring the community together in celebration of all the animal protection work happening Dallas.
